About Christine Smallwood

I’m Christine Smallwood, a food and travel writer specialising in Italy. I’ve written three books, on the regions of Lombardy, Umbria and Puglia, have met some extraordinary, inspiring and fun people along the way, and made some very dear friends.

Although I graduated in French, and it was while working in Paris that I first got to know people creating excellent food, the Italophile seed was sown at the age of three when my parents first took me to visit friends living on the island of Ischia. I was allowed to help throw the dough in the local pizzeria, and enjoy heavenly ice cream on the beach with the young Italian boys.

I’m a member of the Guild of Food Writers, work as a food tourism consultant and live in north London with my architect husband amid congested bookshelves, bright splashes of seventies Crayonne plastic and a ready corkscrew.

Welcome to this site, make yourself comfortable and get to know some great people and their unforgettable food.
